Nagasaki University is set to host a significant kick-off symposium for its newly established Research Center for Global Risk (CGR) on December 21, 2024. The event, which will run from 10:00 to 17:30 JST, will feature both in-person sessions at the Bunkyo Sky Hall and online webinar options.

The Research Center, established in June 2024, focuses on analysing critical global challenges including climate change, nuclear risk and biosecurity, infectious diseases, information security, military conflicts, and social fragmentation. The symposium will bring together international experts and academics to discuss these pressing global issues.

Christian Felber, renowned author and initiator of the Economy for the Common Good (ECG), will deliver a keynote lecture during Session 2, titled “The Pursuit of Value in the Age of Polycrisis”. His presentation will explore a holistic approach grounded in universal values to address the current polycrisis, followed by a panel discussion with CGR faculty members. Christian will be in Japan from December 18-23. Additional programming details are pending confirmation. You can keep up with the agenda here.

The symposium will feature bilingual sessions with Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation available in the afternoon. The event is free to attend, though registration is required for both in-person and online participation.
