
The United Nations set 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives. It is one of the paths to a different global economy, one that is more connected to the common good and with less focus on GDP.
Cathy Statz and Ingrid Rasmussen will explore this important solution, discussing how the ownership structure is a good example of democratic processes within organizations. Cathy Statz, CUDE, an outreach specialist for the International Centre for Co-operative Management at Saint Mary’s University and supporter for the Cooperative Development Foundation and National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International (NCBA CLUSA) on projects including the Cooperative Leaders and Scholars Program; and Ingrid Rasmussen, a pharmaceutical chemist and quality manage consultant that co-directs Cooperativa Entrebichitos Men, a biotech cooperative that develops biopreparations for industries, agriculture sector, and household use through sustainability and circular economy. The seminar will also explore how cooperatives promote environmental conscious practices linked to Social Development Goals.
