The poly-crisis has exposed the fragility of our democracies as a constant question in modern times, with no clear answers to what’s next. Sociocracy proposes a governance system that protects and promotes the ideals democracy is built upon. The goal? To build a structure where values are applied as equally as possible to everyone. Join our next ECOnGOOD Conversation, which will address valuable perspectives on how an organisations’ operating model can thrive in cooperation and equality, instead of struggling through competition and fights for dominance.

Ted Rau is an advocate, trainer and consultant for self-governance. He co-founded the membership organisation Sociocracy for All in 2016. He is co-author of four books on self-governances: Many Voices One Song (2018), Who Decides Who Decides (2021), and Collective Power (2023), From Here to There (2025).  Ted spends his days consulting with mission-driven organisations, teaching and deeply immersed in the work as a member within Sociocracy for All. He is currently working on a book on the interface between governance, the deep code modernity, and wisdom.

Michael is one of the Co-Founders of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll). In his role as Development Lead for WEAll, he leads the relationships with new and existing supporters of WEAll and supports the organisation’s focus on redefining the role of business and finance in a wellbeing economy. An economist by training, Michael first worked in agricultural trade economics in both the Caribbean and in Oxford, and then international director for the consulting arm of the New Economics Foundation (NEF) for over a decade. Michael holds post-graduate qualifications in economics and organisational development and uses that knowledge to blend rigorous analysis with innovative learning spaces to advance wellbeing economy solutions.

The session will be moderated by Maria Kleimann, an ECOnGOOD speaker and consultant that focuses on building the ECOnGOOD Academy and supporting the internal organisation development of the Common Good Culture project. Maria has a background in sustainable development, environmental protection, and ecological agriculture management. Through working with thousands of activists and groups, her interest in organizational development and cooperation on an equal footing has grown.
