The Building Better Business (BBB) 2025 initiative, fully funded by the City of Amsterdam, offered local businesses a structured pathway to enhance their social and environmental impact while maintaining commercial viability. Companies based in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area chose between two tracks: B Corp and the Economy for the Common Good (ECG).

The ECG track offers a comprehensive approach to linking social impact with strategic business decisions and sustainable growth. At its core is a 360° sustainability management tool that provides companies with clear insights into their progress across key impact areas. This track prepares businesses for creating a Common Good Report, a formal documentation of their contributions to societal well-being and environmental sustainability.

What makes the ECG approach particularly valuable is its holistic perspective on business success. Rather than viewing profit as the sole measure of achievement, the ECG model evaluates how a company’s activities contribute to fundamental values like human dignity, solidarity, ecological sustainability, social justice, and codetermination. Through structured guidance and community support, participating businesses can transform their operations to create meaningful positive impact without sacrificing financial stability.

The application deadline for the project closed in May and June 2025, with eleven companies having chosen the B Corp track and another eleven having selected the ECG track. For more information, visit the official website.
