IV Economy for the Common Good International Conference 2026
Deadline for applications: January, 31st, 2025 |
The IV ECGIC will aim to foster dialogue between the ECOnGOOD organisation, the Economy for the Common Good model (ECG) and other real economic theories. The conference should continue and further develop the interdisciplinary approach of the first three events. And more generally, it should respond to the conferences’ overall aim of providing knowledge-based foundations to the ECG economic model.
The vibrant confluence of a diversity of narratives has been an important reason for the very positive reception of the conferences among speakers and participants, who perceived themselves as actively contributing to the conversation. The call for papers should therefore attract academic work related to both confluence and contention between ECG and other alternative economic models. Furthermore, it should actively attract students and young scholars.
In June 2024, the III Economy for the Common Good International Conference (ECGIC 2024) was held in The Netherlands. The academic contributions were extensive, comprising 44 scientific paper presentations, 8 posters, and 10 practical cases. Attendance reached 230 participants, from at least 12 countries.
Attendees enjoyed a thorough vision of the current social, economic and political context and concrete proposals towards the advancement of just and sustainable regions. In both scientific and non-scientific frameworks. The conference featured insightful talks from 8 keynote speakers and experts in their fields. In addition, a round table discussion was held, with representatives from five economic models, including the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, Care Economy, Doughnut Economics, Social and Solidarity Economy, and the ECG.
In 2022, the second edition brought us to Valencia, Spain, hosted by the ECG Chair at the University of Valencia; and we held the first movement-wide gathering in 2019 in Bremen, Germany.
The ECOnGOOD Science & Research Hub is now looking for interested organizations to host a fourth edition in Spring 2026.
Conference Design
We view the ECG International Conferences as hubs both for fostering academic discourse on the ECG model, for mutual inspiration between similar approaches and models, as well as for providing fresh ideas for ECG practitioners. At the core of a successful conference are a) topical tracks with carefully selected keynotes, b) special encounter formats for similar models and integration perspectives, and c) the transdisciplinary orientation to mingle scholars, practitioners, policymakers and students.
Importantly, the conference should offer spaces for the above-mentioned stakeholders to engage into long-term dialogue and cooperation. The aims of these spaces are to foster transdisciplinary research, to create synergies and bridges, and to provide ECG appliers and policymakers with new skills and knowledge. For this purpose, we propose either a full practitioners day or a dedicated track traversing the conference.
Declaration of interest
We open the call to all interested academic/research institutions globally, independently of their experience and involvement in the ECG movement.
