Christian Felber, founder and author of the Economy for the Common Good (ECG) model, conducted a series of impactful events in Japan during February 2025. The visit marked a crucial milestone following the Japanese translation of his book and the establishment of the movement’s first local group in the continent, which took place in 2024.
In Tokyo, Felber headlined an open seminar that discussed the concepts of aiming for an economy that fosters a sense community: the Future of the Economy for the Common Good. The event featured prominent speakers including Kazuko Hikawa from Nagasaki University and engaged in meaningful dialogue with local leaders such as Ichiro Takahashi, Chairman of Seibu Shinkin Bank, and Kenichi Kato, Mayor of Odawara.
Following the seminar, a special organizational development workshop introduced participants to the practical implementation of the Common Good Balance Sheet, a key ECG tool. This workshop provided practical frameworks for organizations interested in implementing these principles in their operations.
Both events successfully bridged Eastern and Western economic philosophies, exploring the synergies between traditional Japanese values and the principles of the Economy for the Common Good. The visit represented a significant step in expanding ECG ideas and the ECOnGOOD organization, which has already spread to thirty-five countries.
